About Finance Engage Sustain (FES)

Finance Engage Sustain (FES), is a youth-led and youth-serving sustainable development organization and Canadian registered charity. As the final generation that can solve climate change, FES empowers young Canadians to create a more inclusive, fair, prosperous, and sustainable future. FES’ intended impact is to see to it that by 2030, Canada is implementing adaptation and mitigation strategies compatible with a climate-resilient future, through the influence and action of young leaders. To do so, FES deploys two programs:

  • The Youth Harbour. A youth-for-youth climate support system that provides financial and technical support for youth-led organizations and youth organizers. Mainly, FES pools philanthropic funds, redistributes funds to youth, and provides fiscal sponsorship and administrative support. In addition, FES offers various other support services to youth leaders such as branding support, co-working spaces, and coaching.

  • Now for Net-Zero. An educational program that provides youth and educators with the necessary tools, connections, and resources to implement net-zero-related activities in their local communities.


Position And Responsibilities

FES is seeking a Communications Coordinator to assist in the promotion of our organization and its programs and work on a diverse range of digital tasks. The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director and Program Managers to develop marketing collateral and visual program materials for both of FES’ two programs, with a focus on FES’ initiative to support the youth climate movement. 

The key responsibilities for this role will include online content creation and social media coordination, written and visual content development, communications strategy, reporting on visibility impact and engagement metrics, and supporting brand maintenance. The Communications Coordinator will work across the organization with various individuals and teams. The Communications Coordinator will work to increase the organization's online presence by engaging new followers, building an engaged audience, and developing messaging and a visual identity that align with the organization's brand and core voice.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Development & Coordination 

  • Cross-Channel Coordination

    • Lead coordination of content translations with FES’ translator to ensure social media posts, newsletters, blogs, and articles are published bilingually.

    • Maintain and update the content calendar, ensuring all social posts, newsletters, blogs, and articles are scheduled and published on time.

  • Social Media 

    • Develop and coordinate captions and design visuals (via Canva) for FES’ social media accounts, including stories, posts, and reels. 

    • Collaborate across teams to identify content, resources, and opportunities to re-share across all social platforms.

  • Newsletter, Blogs & Articles 

    • Collaborate across teams to plan and develop content for organizational and program newsletters, articles, and blog posts. 

    • Write and/or edit content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.

    • Support the Operations Manager and Grants Coordinator to design, build out, and schedule newsletters accordingly on MailChimp and LinkedIn. 

  • Reports, decks, and resources

    • Support the Executive Director to build out the designs and formatting of important reports, slide decks, proposals, and resources using pre-existing templates and branding for consistency. 

    • Support Program staff in building out reports and resources 

    • Provide content recommendations and support the design of infographics to communication messaging and information visually 

    • Export and compress files for distribution, upload completed files to shared drives, and share key resources across social media channels.

Branding & Visual Identity

  • Ensure all internal and external communications align with brand guidelines, including tone, messaging, and visual standards. 

  • Contribute ideas and draft concepts for new brand elements (e.g. templates, graphics, small visual assets), working closely with design colleagues to bring them to life

  • Maintain and organize brand assets (logos, templates, style guides) to ensure consistent use across teams. 

  • Could play a role in adapting visual identity and branding for content. 

  • Assist in keeping brand guidelines up to date as the visual identity evolves. 

Marketing & Visibility

  • Support donor campaigns by helping execute concepts, develop content, and assist with outreach as needed.

  • Help grow the online presence by posting consistently and engaging with the organization’s audience across channels.

  • Contribute to growing the follower base and overall visibility, helping make the organization more recognized. 

  • Identify and support partnerships that help advance these goals. Stay attentive to trends and best practices to keep our presence active and relevant. 


Communications Strategy & Performance

  • Collaborate with team members and the ED to plan and direct program communications strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Define and document target audiences, personas, and key stakeholder groups to guide communication planning.

  • Maintain the master-content calendar across all communication channels to streamline planning and execution.

  • Gather and organize monthly engagement metrics from all communication channels in a digital tracker, developing quarterly highlight reports when requested.

  • Analyze performance data and benchmark statistics to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and inform data-driven communication recommendations.


Other communications duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Operations Manager. 


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications*:

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary institution or a post-secondary graduate. 

  • Between the ages of 18 to 30 at the start of the job placement.

  • Experience and interest in digital communications, content creation, and social media management. 

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience working with social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram), management tools, and online marketing platforms. 

  • Minimum 6 months experience in marketing, content creation, and social media required (this can be satisfied through work, internship/co-op, volunteer, and extracurricular activities). 

  • Demonstrated interest in relevant domains (ie. sustainability, education, youth engagement and action) is considered an asset.

  • Proficient with using database software (most notably Google Suite)

 Skills and Competencies:

  • Eager to be in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a high learning curve.

  • A creative-minded individual with a keen eye for detail; able to present information in a logical and organized format that is well-designed and aesthetically pleasing.

  • A self-starter able to take initiative on responsibilities with minimal supervision; proven ability to work independently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrating a positive attitude to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues in a virtual environment.

  • Ability to speak, write, and communicate in French is a strong asset.

  • Graphic design skills will be considered a strong asset.
